A Comparison of Two Methods



Since the fault attribute tags associated with the graphical notes are embedded within the file, they must be extracted or revealed by hand on the desktop. After importing the file into AutoCAD, the attribute icons are opened with a click that reveals the attribute tag. The tag is then dragged to the margin and a leader is drawn to connect the tag to the icon.

This time consuming and repetitious work is not unlike the transcription of hand-taken field notes that we originally used. Although this system basically works well, there are some glitches in the file-handling capabilities of the ESA that lead us to look beyond.
